Looking good. We had 18 inches of snow yesterday, so it will be a bit before J can see his. :)

Apparently I have a local restaurant already interested in buying my garlic. Who knew? Pat, I think I am going to need to buy more to plant in the Fall.

It could lead to something you never expected. :) I keep trying to convince J, to only grow garlic and market it to wegmans or one of the other chains that buy local. Deaf ears. :) He was able to pick 4# of lettuce from the high tunnel today, and spinach is ready to be picked.

Mmmm, spinach. Yeah, one of my farmer's market friends was talking to a restaurant owner and they were talking about locally produced products. She mentioned I was growing garlic and he said he would buy it. His restaurant is 3 blocks from my house. You don't get much more local than that.

yummy! I want to try to grow garlic too. Is it elephant garlic?

No, no elephant garlic here. That's the crap they mass produce and sell in grocery stores. This is the good stuff: North German Red, Polish Carpathian, Bogatyr, Killarney Red, Siberian, and another type of German Hard Neck. Much better and more robust flavors. It's also very easy for me to grow here in Maryland. The hard necks, from what I've read like a good cold winter, which is why it's hard to grow them way down south, like in Texas. My sister's the real farmer though. She got me started. Maybe she'll pop in here and fill you in a little more. Basically here, I plant cloves after the first hard freeze. That kills off any flying insects that might have laid eggs. Then ignore them until late Spring early summer here.
