Am I Missing Something?

I know all the information isn't out yet and I have been suspicious that so little information has been released and then only acknowledged when the media discovers it first.

So far, what I've heard is this new mother of octuplets is a single mom, with 6 other children ranging in ages from 2 to 7. She lives with her parents in a 3 bedroom home. She was taking fertility drugs and had invitro fertilization to get pregnant. Am I missing something here?

If you're a single parent and already have 6 kids, why would you want more? Obviously you've gotten pregnant successfully before, why would you need fertility drugs? If you can't afford to support your first 6 kids and that's why you live with your mom and dad, why would you try to get pregnant again?

If you can't afford to support your 6 kids, where did you get the money for the fertility drugs and the invitro fertilization? That last one is super expensive. Who is the doctor that enabled this woman to get pregnant with 8 more kids? Are there no ethics in the medical field?

Am I missing a part of this story? So much of it doesn't make sense and I can't believe nobody put the breaks on this months, if not years ago. Lastly, are these the actions of a sane mind? Should this woman be trusted to care for and raise 14 children? Who's going to pay for that? Who's already been paying for their support and the creation of these last 8?

I with you on all of that. This whole thing smells. I can, however, answer your last question. We will. We are going to pay for it, one way or another. In fact, I'll bet we already are. I'll bet that her insurance is either nonexistent or insufficient.

Maybe it was just a doctor trying to make a name - maybe the doctor was lied to (although I must say that would be quite the trick or one very dumb doc).

More will be revealed - this is not over yet.

I asked the exact same questions when I heard this story this morning! I've heard that there are waiting lists for in vitro in many places. WHY was this woman placed on the list when she already had 6 kids?!!

We all know they will reveal more after the babies are home. they just dont want the media at the hosptial trying to take photo's of them without permission.. Its like that one lady that had those seven babies. They are now teens. Jeff and I were just leaveing MN when that happened.

In a world of billions of people, they should tax fertility drugs more than they tax tobacco, you'd think. In the end, we'll all probably end up picking up the tab for the insanity.

Apparantly she did invitro for the first 6 also... the 8 were the embryos that were left over, she didn't want to throw them away so they implanted them. They didn't expect all of them to take, but they did.

By the way, she was a single parent, from the beginning. Only her parents for help. I have no idea why she'd want to have done this, or how this is good for the kids (especially since one of her three year olds is a little autistic boy)... but that's what happened.

I hope that the parents can help her out, and won't just turn their backs on her. As much as this is an outrage, the last thing these kids need is for the grandparents to walk out too.

This is the latest!!
The single mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2 million from media interviews and commercial endorsements to help pay the costs of raising the children.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert after it emerged last week that she already had six children before giving birth on Monday. She now has 14 children younger than 8.

Although still confined to a Los Angeles hospital bed, she intends to talk to two influential television hosts this week — media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Diane Sawyer.

Her family has told agents she needs cash from media deals.

Her earning power, though, could be diminished by a growing ethical and medical controversy. Experts believe that the unnamed fertility specialists who gave her in vitro fertilization (IVF) should not have implanted so many embryos, and in choosing to carry all eight to term, Suleman ignored guidelines, risking both the babies' health and her own.

Public reaction has been mixed: Many have asked how an unemployed single mother can raise 14 children, as her first six have already strained the family budget. Angela and Ed Suleman, Nadya’s parents, bought her a two-bedroom bungalow in the Los Angeles' suburb of Whittier in March 2007, but soon after fell on hard times and had to leave their own home.

UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE PLANS A CAREER AS A TELEVISION CHILDCARE EXPERT ~ NO SCHOOLING NEEDED ~ JUST PUMP'EM OUT, THEN YOU ARE AN EXPERT!! AHHHGGGGG!!!
